The Making of "Love Me Do" | The Please Please Me Sessions
Everything you need to know about The Beatles' "Love Me Do." |
If Besame Mucho failed to impress the Parlophone crew, the next track the Beatles recorded prompted engineer Norman Smith to send tape-operator Chris Neal to fetch George Martin. The reason is clear from the audition tape, issued on Anthology 1. Here, suddenly, was something utterly fresh and original the Beatles had written. Intrigued, George Martin supervised a take which caught the cold Northern breeze of a very unusual sound.
"Love Me Do" was the first song recorded and released by the Beatles, not including any recordings made with Tony Sheridan and The Beat Brothers.
In his book, Paul describes the 1958 writing session for the song: "'Love Me Do' was written in one of our sessions at 20 Forthlin Road; completely co-written. It might have been my original idea but some of them really were 50-50s, and I think that one was. It was just Lennon and McCartney sitting down without either of us having a particularly original idea... We loved doing it, it was a very interesting thing to try and learn to do, to become songwriters. I think why we eventually got so strong was we wrote so much through our formative period."

"Isn't It A Pity" by The Beatles (1966 Revolver Rehearsal)
Переглядів 6 тис.16 годин тому
This is not an authentic Beatles session, but rather a fan-made recreation of what "Isn't It A Pity" might have looked like during a rehearsal in mid-1966. My intention isn't to fool anyone into believing this is real; instead, I want to get Beatles fans to wonder what the song may have sounded like in a parallel universe. Enjoy! George revealed during the Get Back sessions that John had vetoed...

Everything you need to know about The Beatles' "Taxman." | Capitalizing on the disillusioned impatience of his recent songs, George stops beating around the bush and attacks the 19-shillings-and-sixpence-in-the-pound top rate of income tax under Harold Wilson's Labour government. At this stage, George was more business-minded than his colleagues and had just realized how much of the group's inc...

Yoko wrote it
George was totally a songwriter by then, with two rippers on Rubber Soul and a few more on the earlier ones. If I needed someone, I need you. Think for yourself, Don’t bother me etc.
I believe LOVE ME DO to be one of my favorites. Its so cool. Ive heard there might be ghostwriters called in to get the Beatles off the launching pad.
I bought Love me do, with my allowance money!
Where are all the comments from the account CosmoKramer saying that Pete Best is worth ten of Ringo Starr??
this commentator has THE most annoying voice on the planet. painful to listen to him.
"Great!" 👍
Ardmore and Beechwood music publishers leaned on George Martin to have this song released, he might have never chosen it otherwise. $$$ won out again.
Fack thumb nail it got in the top 20 con u tuber
Baby You're A Rich Man was a great song on that record, I wish they'd covered recording that as well.
It still confuses me that Isn't It a Pity was rejected in 66 and 67, when inferior Harrison songs like I want to tell you, Only a Northern Song and Blue Jay Way WERE recorded, so it wasn't as if George wasn't allowed any of his songs (Only a Northern Song was at least part recorded for Pepper before George Martin rejected it). It makes me wonder what John had against it, OR that it was an earlier and inferior version that George had submitted.
'Love Me Do' only peaked at NO.17 on the UK charts. After that though it was nothing but NO.1s all the way!
The ai voices are creepy
Fantastic, beautifully done. Enjoyed very much. Going to send you back to the source material for the origin of "Pilchard" 😅😅😅😅
This is excellent !😊😊😊😊

Another sneaky & vailed phrase these guys loved to hide in plain sight: “Love Me Do” = “Do Me, Luv”.
All this story of “love me - harmonica melody”, sounds quite controversial. Cause on june 6 recording Paul sings love me do, and it said there were no George Martin on the 6 of june audition 🤔
You know what, John and Paul were great song writers, if it was up to George aloe the Beatles would have flopped, having said that - when I saw the Get Back documentary. I noticed Georges demos of his songs were boring and very kinda " Sad, Boring and just not popping at all- Yes they were some good or great ones when they were all done- if I was in the band I would have sided with Mr Martin and Lennon and McCartney in thinking Georges songs were not that good- I Me Mine is an ok song at best, some of them like Pity. - While my Guitar, turned out to be great- Hey. it is what it is. it worked out great for all of them- Do not be stupid and feel sorry for any one of the Beatles- for poor people ok, and dying people ok for the sad people with no family or friends or no one to turn to in life , yes feel sorry for them. but not for a rock n roll star who make millions. just because people like me love their songs- So George did not get to do all of his songs in the band. so what ho cares? He did them all after right? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Money Money Money
“Declare the pennies on your eyes” was the lyric John gave to George.
This is not please please me sessions though they didn't Even know about the album by this point
Yes, but it eventually appeared on the album Please Please Me.
Love me do was a musically simple song, and the lyrics are banal even for highs school prom. However, it was clear, through the harmonica solo and the group effort that there was something very special which would show effervescently in the years to come.
They “all” helped with the songs. Didn’t George would come up with “the solos”? Didn’t George come up with great “guitar introductions”? Then they should have given George credit.
It’s remarkable that two of the world’s greatest composers lived a few streets away from each other!
Andy White drummed on Love me do recording not Ringo
Both Ringo and Andy played in different versions.
Both did
Reaching number 17 in the UK in November of 1962 doesn't sound like a bad debut for a single by a new music group (and young song writers). Funny to hear George point that placement out though (think Mark Lewisohn confirmed that charting), and say that the company [EMI] became a little more "friendly" afterwards. Not sure about the charts then (NME was just started in 1952? Just ten years prior?), and if there was a bit of cynicism about padding or reputation of a particuar listing? Not big on Wikipedia, but its accessible, and one entry noted: "However, until 15 February 1969, when the British Market Research Bureau chart was established, there was no universally accepted chart. Other charts existed and different artists may have placed at number one in charts by Record Mirror, Disc or Melody Maker. "
The only exampel of George's "innovating" gitarrwork in The Beatles we hear about, is the four notes on And I Love Her. Wow, was it all? Four simple notes? I could have done that.
Thank God, no chord progression waffle here.
While they dismissed his contribution later Martin.was the perfect man to guide the early Beatles.and it shows
Comment from me inside, thank you from Elli ✌❤other place
Love Me Do hit #1 here in the states in '62.
Are you sure about that
Nope.
Oh please,, Poor Pete got royally shafted ,, was Ringo really better?
The mixing of "I am the Walrus" is so odd, like how it all shifts to one channel and sounds out of phase, and then the mix diminishing into the radio noises. It stands as a very creative piece that feels like the inspiration to albums like Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here"" album and the choices made on that one. Though I am fairly certain that it's just me drawing those threads, but the idea was good nonetheless in either case.
Here’s a good example of how far AI needs to go before it truly takes the place of human mimicking. The AI voice of McCartney is terrible. The voice sounds as if he may have picked up a slightly German accent. I was Ok with production until that.
Absolutely awesome have a wonderful day also last night was Canada day where I live in ❤😊
*I like getting any new dirt that reveals the tyrant of a man McCartney really is. I'm well aware that he's got the label of the 'cute' one, but that's as deceptive as someone like Ted Bundy being handsome, and therefore a 'nice' guy. Looks are deceiving, and he's been playing that card because he knows people love it. I think he's seriously dark ... and Lennon thought so, too*
George always tailored his leads to the song, as opposed to playing a standard, blues-rock lead. He varied the tone and the style to match. He was tasteful, and so was the entire group. When you've got great material, the need to be a star is lessened. considerably.
LOVE the harmonica!!
Although Sgt Pepper was probably the most influential Beatles album, MMT was superior in regards to the songwriting with the exception of A Day In The Life.
I think it was Paul who wrote that they had the cameras facing the wrong way! They should have filmed the chaos happening around the production rather than the unscripted action itself. It would have made far better film.
Isn't there any AI playing it with John vocals? I'd pay to hear it and compare.
I've always liked this song.
When local musician Delbert McClinton was asked if he taught John Lennon how to play harmonica, he said he didn't know. "It was one of them Beatles."
Delbert McClinton wasn't a local musician. He's from Lubbock. TX. He played the harmonica on the Bruce Chanel hit Hey, Hey Baby. They toured the UK and the Beatles were on the bill. That's how Lennon met him.
